The bird of paradise plant is commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions. This substantial piece of jewelry shows off its beauty using a technique known as ribbon cane. First the cane is pulled by making flat ribbons of glass striped with the desired colors. From this cane, leaves and petals are pulled one at a time. Then the base bead is formed by melting hot glass and shaping it in a lentil press. While keeping the whole bead warm in the flame of the torch, the leaf and petal details are added, being very careful not to melt them all the way in. Highlighted with bright green glass and silver saucers, this is best worn on a simple silver snake chain.
