Elegantly shaped ginkgo leaves have graced art for thousands of years. The leaf shapes in my “Ginkgo Fall” art mirror echo yellow ginkgo leaves I once collected beneath a ginkgo tree. Made of yellowheart, a naturally yellow wood species, my falling fall ginkgos are partially recessed into ebonized walnut panels. Their slightly raised profiles add an extra dimension to this already multi-dimensional piece. The panels themselves are spaced apart from the ebonized walnut frame to allow part of the wall to show through. This design element adds to the sense of depth in this piece.
A French cleat, comprised of two finished walnut lengths with opposing angles, provides easy and secure wall mounting. One length is affixed to the rear of “Ginkgo Fall.” The other length screw-mounts to wall studs (or mollies can be used), after which this art piece simply drops onto its opposing angled piece, secure and flush against the wall.
