I sliced this very unusual birch knot vertically and then “incarcerated” it within dyed black mahogany panels. The panels are positioned in notched mahogany cross pieces. No screws or glue trap the knot segments--they're held in place simply by tension. A raised panel on the rear of the base makes my incarcerated knot appear to float on the wall. The panel has a sliding horizontal keyhole that makes for easy wall mounting.
