This quilt may be used as a throw or a wall hanging. The artist’s original pattern of appliquéd monochromatic pieced circles is inspired by the new 2021 Intersex Progress Pride Flag and Gay Pride Parades. Two bands of rainbow floral fabric harken back to the idea of flower power and nonviolent resistance coined by poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965 as a means to transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles. The appliquéd rainbow circles march on a field of black toward intersections of rainbow hearts and the written word “love.”The parade is cheered on by free motion quilted waves of hearts in the long borders in rainbow thread with pink outlines representing both the commonalities and messiness of love relationships of all its many forms. In the main field along the borders of the field their are black embroidered hearts to represent the many lives lost in the battle for equality, acceptance and understanding throughout the decades. Beside the hearts in rainbow thread the title of the quilt is repeated. Love Marches On, Love is Love separated by hearts. The quilt is bound in black and the backing fabric is a rainbow fireworks celebration of love.

Each of the quits for this exhibit is inspired by current affairs and the stress the artist sees in the world. Prior to this show all York’s quilts have been made for friends and family members as a way to show her love with each stitch. Wishing to stitch the world together and because quilts are a unique functional art form that provides of warmth and comfort, York hopes you will enjoy the love and passion that has gone into creating this one of a kind piece and that it may bring you comfort.

Materials:
• Prewashed premium cotton fabric to limit potential shrinkage or bleeding of color
• Organic cotton batting
• Cotton and polyester threads for quilting effects
• Colors: black, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues purples, teal, pink, whites, and browns
