I enjoy making what I call “table sleds”: one-of-a-kind creations that marry art and function. This oak table sled features live edges (natural edges), a purpleheart spline running from end to end along the center, and purpleheart supports underneath that I’ve contoured to evoke sled runners. (Purpleheart is named for its natural purple color. ) The sled is finished with a food-safe mixture of beeswax and mineral oil that leaves a satiny finish and allows the woods' natural colors to be showcased.
Display my table sled on any surface in the dining room, living room, den, or office. With its heat- and food-safe finish, it can be used for serving items hot from the stove or for presenting cheeses, sushi, or other foods.
