Abstract roses are a theme I return to again and again, and the blooms in this work were created by layering sunset orange, yellow and metallic brass ink on yupo paper. The rosy images were then affixed to a heavyweight, matte substrate.
This piece stands out in this year’s offerings for two reasons: it is one of the larger of ink works and the overall color scheme—taupey gray, brown with a hint of sheen and subtle applications of orange and yellow--was intentionally restrained.
