This quilt may be used as a throw, a wall hanging or crib quilt. The quilt uses a combination of squares, triangles and pieced strips to make this original pattern and vision of Rothko’s garden. The piece is heavily quilted to add extra interest to large single color fabric areas sometimes in concentric triangles, rows or square patterns similar to the way Rothko used brushstrokes within a single tone. The 18 carefully selected fabrics consist of florals and geometrics in line with how the artist Rothko might have planted his garden choosing color combinations for emotional effect. The quilt is backed and bound with a tone on tone cream floral and has extra batting in the binding to increase the cozy, comfort of the quilt and add dimension. This quilt coordinates well with the “Happy House” pillow cover/sham in a separate listing.

Each of the quits for this exhibit is inspired by current affairs and the stress the artist sees in the world. Prior to this show all York’s quilts have been made for friends and family members as a way to show her love with each stitch. Wishing to stitch the world together and because quilts are a unique functional art form that provides of warmth and comfort, York hopes you will enjoy the love and passion that has gone into creating this one of a kind piece and that it may bring you comfort.
