Many years ago Temple Emanuel received a Torah scroll which during the Holocaust the Nazi troops had stolen, intending it for a "Museum of a Vanished People." Paul was asked to write a play that would honor the installation of this scroll at the Temple. Since the play included Ezekiel's immortal "Son of Man, Can These Bones Live?" I decided to make a painting of Ezekiel's vision of the dry bones, their quickening with life and being lifted up into the promised land, Ezekiel himself leading the way.

To prepare for this, I spent months drawing the skeleton kept by SUNY Ulster's nursing department.
