This quilt may be used as a throw, a wall hanging or crib quilt. The pattern is the artist’s original design and includes piecing and appliqué. York was inspired by the fabric she found with seed packet labels in the design. A detail at the bottom of the quilt that says, “ The Page Seed Company” other areas this fabric reads “Petunias, Pinks, Sweet William, Poppy, CandyTuft, Morning Glory and Sweet William” many of which the artist has growing in her own garden. The fabrics are a selection of florals, stripes, and batiks that invoke the soothing gentle colors of a lavender field. Lavender is said to relieve stress and anxiety while aiding rest. The pieces are quilted using both free-hand, decorative and straight stitches. The quilting on this piece includes vine patterns, rows and freely drawn flowers and leaves in purples and greens. Coordinating pillow cover/sham may be found in other listing.
Each of the quits for this exhibit is inspired by current affairs and the stress the artist sees in the world. Prior to this show all York’s quilts have been made for friends and family members as a way to show her love with each stitch. In hopes of stitching the world together and because quilts are a unique form of warmth and comfort. York hopes you will enjoy the love and passion that has gone into creating this one of a kind piece and that it may bring you comfort.
