This rustic spalted birch wall clock boasts a large and unusual open knothole, dramatic grain throughout, and track marks on its live edges (natural edges) left by critters that once burrowed just beneath the bark. Ebony inlays mark the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, and padauk (vermillion) inlays mark the first and third quarter-hour locations. The quartz movement is partially recessed into the clock’s rear, making the clock seem to float on the wall, casting interesting shadows when seen from various angles. A satiny hand-rubbed lacquer finish preserves the surface and showcases the wood's wild reds, browns, and grays.
Note: The photo at left was taken from slightly to the right of the clock's center. This piece has in fact a live (natural) edge all around.
