Tugboats at Midnight

Tugboats at Midnight was among the prints created by a dozen contemporary printmakers, depicting the Staten Island Waterfront for a 2006 exhibition entitled "Tide Lines" at The Noble Maritime Collection at Snug Harbor. It depicts one of the dry docks along Richmond Terrace which service and repair barges and tugboats that work along the waters of the island. I was actually banished from the location while sketching, as the London underground (subway) had recently been bombed and Staten Island security personnel could not allow any images to be made of the coastline. Luckily, I was almost finished with the sketch, and I ordered and assembled a model tugboat to use as my model to finish it.
