Backyards in Winter

Backyards in Winter depicts the view from my window on W. 68th St., where I stayed for a good part of the winters of 2005 and 2006 and from which I sketched the image and carved much of the block. These yards are between W. 68th and W. 67th Streets behind the Hotel des Artistes. The building on the right was erected in 1875, and the background skyscraper, is on Broadway. I converged the perspective to make the beautiful facades of the buildings more visible.

This type of view, along with those on rooftops, are among my favorites - the hidden worlds of the city you cannot see from the street.
