About the Artist

Biography

My apprenticeship in photography began in my father's closet-sized darkroom in the basement of our Brooklyn house. I would spend hours there entranced by the images that would magically appear. When we traveled, I would carry the extra lenses for his Nikon F which was used for slide film, and his Yashica twin lens, which was reserved for black and white photography. We would discuss photos, lighting, composition elements, and the differences between Kodachrome I and Kodachrome II.

In 1968 I started doing street photography in New York City and have since moved on to subjects closer at hand, most recently including abstracts of ice.

I gave up my dark room when digital made it far too easy to do so much more.

I have exhibited locally and self-published several books at Blurb.com.

I am a not so recently retired family physician in Kingston, New York (45 years in practice).

My gratitude goes out to my wife Ruth, for many things, but most relevantly for her help with and understanding of my photographic passion. (see artist picture for the happy couple)

More of my photographs appear on line at www.hippocratesgal.com.
